The Olympus Story

A Geometric Puzzle Through Time

The Olympus design was a process. It started with a single ring that evolved into several rings in different combinations. Designer David Martin began with the Olympus Orb that went through several iterations. Looking for a solution while working remotely during the early days of Covid19, he used an exercise ball to hold the metal rings in place. In the tooling department, the ball was deflated to allow them to weld the rings together for an early metal sketch to prove out the concept. The next step in the evolution of the design came in the form of technology. David used Shapr3D as a way to help solve complex geometric puzzles and accelerate his development process.

These "design puzzles" are some of David's self-proclaimed favorite parts of the process. The solution to the problem heavily relies on our in-house Prototype & Tooling department and David's knack for making even the hard puzzles look easy.
